| Fly Casting - The Fly Rod
and How To Use It - For the Novice and the Expert contains re-published
information by Eastman Publishing. The contents of this Ebook is from an original handbook
by Sheridan R. Jones, which was published in 1923 by Outers' Recreation. The author gives you details about the various fly rods and
how they cast them in order to catch bass, trout and other fish. Take a step back in time,
over 80 years ago, and learn the tricks of the trade from an old-time angler. You should
find this Ebook very appealing and a pleasure to read if you have a desire to learn about
fly-fishing, casting a line or have experience already.
The following is the introduction by Sheridan Jones
and the Table of Contents that you'll find in this Ebook.
To all followers of Izaak Walton, but especially to those
who have sensed that artistic element made possible by the use of the fairy wand in
angling and who would learn to lure both trout and bass with feathers, we present this
handbook on fly-casting equipment and methods. At no place within these pages has our aim
been controversial, rather have we had in mind an effective presentation of the subject
with the needs of those lacking in experience constantly in mind. That the expert will
overlook all shortcomings and points of departure from his ideal we have little doubt.
We have endeavored to present the fundamentals of
fly-casting tackle and of fly-casting methods in as simple a manner as the more or less
complete treatment of a subject will permit. Naturally, there is much of the personal
element included by way of illustration, and not all must be taken as fixed and
unchangeable. Naturally, too, there will be the same opportunity for disagreement in
detail found in all angling writings, and the reader is urged to perfect and to improve
the method as experience may teach and as fellow flymen may suggest.
We are confident, however, that the beginner will find much
of value within the pages; that he will progress far along the road toward expertness with
the fly rod; that he will be mechanically able to lay a fly with delicacy and precision.
More than this we can not guarantee, since the human element, that makes or mars the
effort, cannot be transferred.
