Old-Fashioned Wood Project Plans

wrshopproject.jpg (149276 bytes)

Along with present-day Articles, Plans, Games, Safety and Tips, this CDbook also contains a re-print of Shop Projects Based on Community Problems that was originally published in 1915. Although this is from a vintage print, it is packed with valuable information for the woodworker who wants to gather information and knowledge on building a over 60 useful projects the old-fashioned way. Learn how-to use hand tools to make all of these projects, however, we're in the age of power tools, so the choice is your own to make.

The original 1915 book is 382 pages with over 60 projects that include material lists, plans, illustrations and diagrams. Included with each project plan is suggestions for other projects using the same principle from that particular plan (e.g. The Magazine Rack/Bookcase plan has suggestions for a Music Cabinet, Umbrella Stand and Cretonne-Covered Cabinet). All digitally re-published in a convenient CDbook format.

The beginning projects are easier to build and advances through each of the six sections. Even though this information was first published in the early 1900's, it has a wealth of information for the 21st century novice to the advanced woodworker, or an industrial arts student or teacher.

A great CDbook that also shows you how-to understand woodworking plans, or re-design them and/or draw up your own. Chapter I helps with the Mechanical Drawing aspect of woodworking. As you can see from the Table of Contents listed below, this CDbook gives you a wealth of the old-fashioned woodworking information. The times may have changed, however, many woodworking methods haven't. The same joints, use of planes, and many other methods are still used in the 21st century.

An excerpt in regards to the Porch Swing plan and instructions: In planning a porch swing one of the most important features is that it shall be comfortable; it should also be attractive and so constructed as to be durable.

The design given in this lesson has been used by one of the largest swing manufacturing concerns in the country for a number of years and it has proven to be correct in every detail. You will observe that the sills are especially heavy and that the swing is so hung as to throw the weight upon these sills.
